Letter from the Director

September 15, 2016

Dear Tropic Cinema Family —

As the new Executive Director, I wanted to take a moment to say hello and introduce myself. Having just started a few days ago, I am still pinching myself in the morning when I realize that I don’t have to hop on a plane and leave Key West. I’m very excited to be here.

While I was being considered for the position, I came to quickly realize how special the Tropic is and how much the community cares about it. The patrons, the staff, the volunteers and the folks on the Board of Directors all feel very strongly about the mission and what the Tropic represents for Key West. I, too, feel that weight and you have my word that I will strive to build on the amazing accomplishments that have made the Tropic such a wonderful and unique theater. In particular I want to say “thank you” to Matthew Helmerich for his amazing tenure here. Matthew is responsible for much of the Tropic’s success to date and I know that I’ve got some big shoes to fill. I am humbled and honored to have the opportunity.

I promise to keep bringing you the very best films and to continue offering an experience that the chain theaters cannot. The Tropic will continue to be an integral part of the Key West arts community and I am counting on having your patronage and support as we move forward. I welcome your input and if there is anything that I can ever do for you, please don’t hesitate to let me know.

Warmest regards,
Paul Melroy
Executive Director
