The mission of the Tropic Cinema is to bring the world's best independent, foreign, documentary, and classic films to the Florida Keys, while promoting the cultural, artistic, and economic well-being of the Key West community.
Our History
Since opening our doors in 2004, The Tropic Cinema has served as a cultural sanctuary within the vibrant mosaic of Key West. Founded on a singular vision, we sought to offer a refined alternative to standard commercial theater—bringing extraordinary independent films, acclaimed international features, and timeless cinematic classics to an island community that deeply values artistic expression.
Our Culture
Beyond our film programming, The Tropic has grown into a cornerstone for island culture, hosting distinguished concerts, compelling lectures, and celebrated community gatherings. Over the years, we have had the honor of welcoming renowned filmmakers, artists, and literary figures, including John Waters, Doug Liman, Mariel Hemingway, Judy Blume, and Meg Cabot.
